Jawhara and its various offshoots is not of Arabic origin. It's a Berber name. It may have originated in Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Egyptians were genetically Berbers. Originally (circa 1600-1400 BCE) a personal name, over the centuries it became a tribal name, a surname, a place name and name of a language (see Zuwara in Libya and Tunisia). The famous Queen Kahina was the ruler of the Jerewa tribal confederation in modern-day Algeria. My surname is Gwira which is pronounced Jwira.
