Samuel Johnson's Dictionary
Hurly, Hurlyburlynoun
Tumult; commotion; bustle.
Etymology: I have been told that this word owes its original to two neighbouring families named Hurly and Burly, or Hurleigh and Burleigh, which filled their part of the kingdom with contests and violence. If this account be rejected, the word must be derived from hurl, hurly, and burly, a ludicrous reduplication. Hurlade, French; hurlubrelu, inconsiderately.
Winds take the ruffian billows by the top,
That with the hurley death itself awakes. William Shakespeare, H. IV.Poor discontents,

Of hurlyburly innovation. William Shakespeare, Henry IV. p. i.Methinks, I see this hurly all on foot. William Shakespeare, K. John.
All places were filled with tumult and hurlyburly, every man measured the danger by his own fear; and such a pitiful cry was in every place, as in cities presently to be besieged. Richard Knolles.
Webster Dictionary

Etymology: [Cf. F. hurler to howl.]
