Haydu is an old obsolete occupation in the Hungarian (Magyar) language, meaing an armed guard of grazing stock against thiefs and predators.
The name is frequently occurring in present day Hungary in a slightly different spelling as "Hajdú" due to the refom of the Hungarian language back in the early XIXth century.
Most famous man known with the name of Haydu in history is the composer genius Joseph Haydu, known today under the misspelled form of Haydn. His father was a Hungarian wheelright, Mathias Haydu.
