Detox as a word is abbreviated from the word Detoxification

Detox is a well used slang word but has no real meaning outside the clinical treatment of drug addiction or poisoning.

Detoxification is the removal of toxins, poisons or harmful substances from the body. It is a treatment used for people addicted to drugs, alcohol (alcoholism)and artificial chemicals in food and drinks (chemicalism) when the level of toxins has become so high it has caused ill health.
