Salacia is a genus of plants in the family Celastraceae. They are woody climbers naturally found in Sri Lanka and southern regions of India. Several species in this genus of plant have been used in traditional medical systems for thousands of years, particularly in the Ayurvedic system from India. The chemical constituents of root bark include polyphenols such as salacinol, kotalanol, and mangiferin.
