The virus is typically spread to humans from rodents, specifically through exposure to urine, droppings, saliva, or nesting material from infected rodents. In humans, symptoms can range from mild flu-like illness to severe neurological conditions, such as meningitis or encephalitis. It can also lead to birth defects if a woman is infected during pregnancy.
