wassermann test
The Wassermann test is a historical blood test for syphilis developed by the German bacteriologist August von Wassermann in 1906. It was used to detect the presence of the syphilis-causing bacteria in the patient's serum by identifying the antibodies produced by the immune system against the bacteria. The test has largely been replaced by more accurate methods of syphilis detection, such as the rapid plasma reagin (RPR) and fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS) tests.
