fibroid tumor
A fibroid tumor is a non-cancerous (benign) growth that usually develops in or around the uterus in women. These tumors are made from muscle tissue and can vary in size from tiny growths undetectable by the human eye to large masses that can distort and enlarge the uterus. The cause of fibroid tumors is unknown, but they are often associated with high levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. They most commonly occur during the reproductive years and can decrease in size after menopause.
