He is most renowned for his significant influence on the shaping of Trinitarian theology and his articulate defense of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. Born in Arianzus (in present-day Turkey), Gregory was educated in Caesarea, Palestine, Alexandria, and Athens. He served as Bishop of Sasima and later as Archbishop of Constantinople. Gregory of Nazianzus is commonly recognized as a saint in both Eastern and Western Christian traditions.
