I would say what it could mean is that because XBB.1.5 is potentially more transmissible, more people are getting infected faster, and therefore that may account for the rise in hospitalizations.

These gene jockeys have put in a furin site into a virus that didn't have one in the laboratory, eleven out of 11 times it makes it more effective, more transmissible, more lethal -- all the bad things you'd want. So if you want to juice up a virus and make it more infective or make it go from bats to humans, putting in a furin cleavage site is a great idea.

Importantly, ‘milder’ does not mean ‘mild.’ And, we cannot look past the strain on our health systems and substantial number of deaths – nearing 2,200 a day as a result of the extremely transmissible omicron variant.

Omicron is three to four times more transmissible than delta ... I think it’s almost impossible to control the spread of omicron.

China is not epidemiologically or psychologically ready for the Omicron variant, the problem is we don't know whether( zero-Covid) can still be effective in dealing with more transmissible variants.

This is by far the king of transmissible Covid viruses. And Texas Children're seeing unprecedented numbers of kids getting infected and going into children's hospitals.

Additionally, peer-reviewed data from multiple laboratories indicate that a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine greatly improves an individual’s antibody response to be able to counter the omicron variant, authorizing booster vaccination to take place at five months rather than six months may therefore provide better protection sooner for individuals against the highly transmissible omicron variant.

The definition of cases is changing, with a highly transmissible variant. There are many, many, many cases, for example, here in New York City, it feels to me like, in some media circles, this was the week where getting COVID became an inevitability. That there is this acceptance that everybody is going to get it eventually, tens of millions of Americans already have, and everybody else is going to at some point.

We are already in a Delta surge. I mean, the cases are going up, and then you have, looking over your shoulder, the Omicron variant, which we know from what's going on in South Africa and in the UK, is a highly transmissible virus.

In looking at early data on transmissibility of Omicron from other countries, we expect to see the proportion of Omicron cases here in the United States continue to grow in the coming weeks, early data suggest that Omicron is more transmissible than Delta, with a doubling time of about two days.

The virus is spreading extraordinarily fast, if you look at the slopes of this wave that we’re in at the moment, it’s a much steeper slope than the first three waves that South Africa experienced. This indicates that it’s spreading fast and it may therefore be a very transmissible virus.

Omicron is here, and it looks like it’s very transmissible.

When you look at the sequence of the virus in terms of its transmissibility, it looks a lot like the Alpha variant that arose out of the UK and came to the US at the beginning part of the year, which was more transmissible than the original lineage but not more transmissible than Delta, on that basis, I actually don't think Omicron is necessarily going to outcompete Delta.

Travel restrictions can delay but not prevent the spread of a highly transmissible variant.

It is going to be very difficult, at least in the foreseeable future and maybe ever, to truly eliminate this highly transmissible virus.

Things are tough right now with Delta because we've heard how transmissible it is and how people who are vaccinated can carry high loads of virus in their noses. But I think we can be reassured that the vaccines still provide excellent protection against hospitalization, serious cases of illness... We know what works and, [ even ] with a more transmissible virus, those things still work : the masks, the distancing, ventilation, filtration and avoiding crowds, we just need to make sure we are even more vigilant about them.

I believe that( China and Australia) overrated the integrity of their borders, it just may not have been such a big problem with the Wuhan version. But then you get something much more transmissible, and then any breach is exposed.

The reason that the delta variant is winning out is because of how transmissible [it is], it’s not like some deadly version of this is going to compete and beat out the delta variant; the only thing that could take over from the delta variant is one that’s more contagious...I don’t see this changing enough so it suddenly reinfects everybody that's already had it, and eludes the vaccine.

Looking state by state and county by county, it is clear that communities where people remain unvaccinated are communities that remain vulnerable. This is all true as we monitor the continued spread of the hyper-transmissible Delta variant.

Public health officials are concerned about the Gamma variant and several other variants of concern, including Alpha and Delta, that have been increasing in frequency in California and may have moderately decreased response to some antibody treatments or be more transmissible.

In terms of the medium-term, my expectation is that we will get a further winter surge, late autumn/winter surge, and that is because we know that winter and autumn favor respiratory viruses, and therefore it’d be very surprising if this particular highly transmissible respiratory virus was not also favored.

When a virus is swilling around the population, it can mutate, every time it replicates( infects) there is the possibility of a mutation. While most of those are neutral or even damage the virus, every so often a mutation gives the virus a' fitness advantage,' which makes it more transmissible. Bluntly, the more people with a second dose, the less this thing can mutate in dangerous ways.

Simon Clarke

It also makes sense that it will be more transmissible from a biological perspective as the two mutations act at the receptor-binding domain of the virus, but there have been no official transmission studies to date.

We also need to realize case numbers are one of the things that [are] driving the likelihood of this virus acquiring mutations that make it more transmissible, if it’s a 1 in a million chance, we’ve let the dice roll 900,000 times because we haven’t been able to control cases out there. Controlling case numbers is going to be the most critical thing we do to lessen the likelihood of more variants.
