There is no stronger protective factor for kids than their primary caregiver's mental health, we know from decades of research that when parents are unhappy or highly distressed, this inevitably negatively affects their parenting behaviors, so it's incumbent on us as a society to figure out how to bring continuous and sustained support for people who are raising the next generation.

It was not a soundbite parenting experience. None of my parents had a lot of training to be parents themselves. They did the best they could, which was not good at all, when you have a parent who's nontraditional, chaos become part of the picture. But she was a great friend, she was a magnetic force. She may not have had the greatest maternal instinct but she had the ability to transcend any differences.

The real questions for parents should be: ‘Are you engaged? Are you paying attention?’ If so, plan to make lots of mistakes and bad decisions. Imperfect parenting moments turn into gifts as our children watch us try to figure out what went wrong and how we can do better next time. The mandate is not to be perfect and raise happy children. Perfection doesn’t exist, and I’ve found what makes children happy doesn’t always prepare them to be courageous, engaged adults.

Parenting happens in layers, and as many opportunities we get or can create to positively reinforce and encourage and build them up, the better, sometimes in a bigger family it's too easy to not be seen individually - this provides one extra way for them to have an extra moment now and then when they can feel special and known as an individual and not just part of the sibling group.

I was attacked as a kid in the tabloids, i can’t stand tabloid magazines or even social media these days. I think anyone who goes after these kids, whether it’s how they dress, or how someone is parenting them, when they are out in public, leave them alone. That just happens to be their parents. They didn’t ask to be given all this attention. Back off or respect when the parents say, ‘Please don’t photograph my kid. Don’t put pictures of them in magazines.’ People should respect that.

Not only is it showing that the brain of grandmothers is activated with grandparenting, it also shows that the parental brain areas are activated late in life, or perhaps are always activated. Once a mother, always a mother, this supports and expands what others have recently reported in that there are continued effects of parenting on the brain into aging.

It's so effective because they have tapped into something that's so fundamental and basic -- that is parenting, you have a group of dads that decided to do something to protect their children without being prompted by the government, without getting paid, and turned the trajectory of this school.

Sleep is an area of health and medicine that's strongly politicized, you have the attachment parenting people and the rigorous sleep training crowd, and so starting from infancy there is a marker of' how I'm doing as a parent can be seen in how regulated my kid is.'.

In this case you have a judge, without any matter before him regarding the parenting time with the child deciding, ‘Oh, you’re not vaccinated. You don't get to see your child until you are vaccinated.' That kind of exceeds his jurisdiction.

I never understood the term co-parenting, when I’m with my daughter, I’m 100 percent a mother, and when she’s with her dad, he’s 100 percent her dad. Co-parenting is parenting.

They'll allow( working) overtime on days off but people just come to the point, they don't want to be here more than they have to be, i don't blame people who want to give money to social workers. But there were times earlier in my career when I did not feel I was home enough for my own needs and I made adjustments to correct that, one piece of advice I usually give to parents of younger children who are in a' high contact parenting' phase is to enjoy the chaos -- you will miss it someday.
