You can dehumanize people when they are just abstract concepts to you, affirmative action, voting rights — these are issues that you can depersonalize. But you can't depersonalize your cousin's husband at the barbecue who asks you to pass the ketchup. It's hard to dismiss or take a stance against love when it's in your face.

I am the biggest threat to your hollow, hateful scheme, because you can't claim that you are targeting marginalized kids in the name of' parental rights' if another parent is standing up to say no. So, then what ? Then you dehumanize and marginalize me.

When the stories and histories of a people are excluded from a country's narrative it becomes so easy to overlook and even dehumanize an entire population, and while the inclusion of this history would go a long way with a diaspora as diverse and vast as ours, it can't just be a chapter in a textbook.

Meanwhile, the name' Atlanta Braves,' the tomahawk adorning the team's uniform, and the' tomahawk chop' that the team exhorts its fans to perform at home games are meant to depict and caricature not just one tribal community but all Native people, and that is certainly how baseball fans and Native people everywhere interpret them, in our discussions with the Atlanta Braves, we have repeatedly and unequivocally made our position clear -- Native people are not mascots, and degrading rituals like the' tomahawk chop' that dehumanize and harm us have no place in American society.

They just dehumanize our families for political gain, i guess they call it gaslighting. They can say these things that will make people believe that these riots were worse than the worst thing that happened on American soil. Either they're ignorant or they're just really devious and clever, and you can put nothing past them, because if you're willing to lie to that degree … It's a disturbing trend to me.

Every week, there is another news event that is equally triggering and terrifying, that leaves people not knowing where they can be safe. They are left with an uncertain future in this country, when you dehumanize people and try to erase them completely from existence, it emboldens those who hate this community, and no one is really stopping them, aside from the community rising up.

One of the benefits often touted for the biological explanations of mental disorders is that they can reduce blame and personal responsibility for their symptoms, but there are some problems with that. Biological explanations can start to dehumanize patients.

You dehumanize a man as much by returning him to nature - by making him one with rocks, vegetation, and animals - as by turning him into a machine. Both the natural and the mechanical are the opposite of that which is uniquely human. Nature is a self-made machine, more perfectly automated than any automated machine. To create something in the image of nature is to create a machine, and it was by learning the inner working of nature that man became a builder of machines. It is also obvious that when man domesticated animals and plants he acquired self-made machines for the production of food, power, and beauty.
