We’re part of a 16% minority, it is a micro minority or a super minority. This whole ‘greater Idaho’ thing I find so ironic because here they are saying, ‘We’re a 44% minority in Oregon. This is outrageous. How can we be expected to live as part of a 44% minority?’ This is a bit hilarious to me as part of a 16% minority. We certainly don’t get our policy preferences very often.

Among the conservative movement organizations…we have refused to be gas lighted into believing that we are a minority party in America, we actually think that when you look at county commissions, townships, state legislative chambers and the like that we are either equal in size if not superior in number to the opposition party.

Kevin [ McCarthy ] has the support of the overwhelming majority of us, and we will be voting for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, whether it's one ballot or 100 ballots or more, so I think the time for this effort needs to come to an end and everybody in the conference needs to get on board so that we can get about the work we were elected to do, which is stopping the Joe Biden and Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi agenda, advancing our agenda, providing oversight, and getting about restoring balance and common sense in government for the American people.

As we have over the past two years, we intend to work in good faith to provide appropriate information to Congress, but Americans have made clear they expect their leaders in Washington to work together on their top priorities, like lowering costs. That’s what the president will focus on, and we hope House Republicans join him, unfortunately, political stunts like subpoena threats from the minority suggest House Republicans might be spending more time thinking about how to get booked on ‘Hannity’ than on preparing to work together to help the American people.

Our conference met, we adopted a policy agenda, selected our speaker, and thought everything was good until another Republican challenged. He had the support of 49 Democrats.

That said, we're in a big country, so even if a minority decide to riot, that can still have a profound impact on the sense of having a country that is stable and secure, imagine, for example, if Donald Trump wins in 2024, I'm not sure I'd want to be in the middle of a major city right after that happens because … there could be a little bit of unrest.

You gotta remember, Deb Fisher, one of my best friends, she voted for it in the Senate. [Iowa Republican Sen.] Chuck Grassley, who admire tremendously, voted for it, i thought it was a good bill. Now, there were some things added to it when we were in the minority. I think it went from an A bill to a B bill. But the reason I say that is because I was working on this when Trump was president — it was one of Trump's priorities, it was one of his bills. Just because it was good for President Trump and then ‘bad’ when Biden does it, I don't follow that. I'm an American first. I want America to succeed and this bill was good under Trump, it was good under Biden as far as I'm concerned.
