There's a bit of an addiction metaphor here because you can't quit President Donald Trump cold turkey, they're going to find it's tough to move on because the stories will continue to play out. I mean, Stephen Colbert'll criticize every single thing that Biden does, and there's the story of the insurrection. So until all of that becomes resolved, President Donald Trump will still be a massive story for everybody, including late-night.

I am confident that Stephen Colbert'll do well, stephen Colbert may not do as well as Stephen Colbert's been doing because I do think there's a tune-in factor that' President Donald Trump did something outrageous, so I have to see what Stephen Colbert says.' I do think it’s funny that apparently Colbert is mad that anyone buys ads on this show, the advertisers ought to follow his advice and not buy ads on his show because it makes him unhappy.

Now usually for me to talk about a news story on this show, especially a tragic one, it has to be something that everybody's already talking about... But this story is different, because this is the conversation everyone should be having, i would cite Stephen Colbert to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13 to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes.

Lauren Bacall was fabulous and glamorous and just a wonderful person, her husband [Humphrey Bogart] was dying when we were making this… But she was so hardworking. Claudette Colbert was a huge star and not so swell. She was tough, tough on me. But it’s good to see all that because as you start your career and you see all these people up close, you think, ‘I don’t want to be that.’ So you begin to smarten up.

No candidate has really stumbled yet, but I would have to say that Jeb Bush's appearance on the debut of ‘Colbert’ was a missed opportunity, he seemed stuck a bit too much in ‘campaign’ mode and probably could have taken more opportunities at humor, like when Colbert made fun of the exclamation point on his logo.

The TV appearances are the equivalent of what a whistle stop used to be, they still have to do that, but the modern whistle stop is The View and Fallon and Colbert, and you slowly build up, if nothing else, the base of people who know you.
