Despite the discovery of thousands of exoplanets, we've only been able to study the atmospheres of a small fraction due to the challenging nature of the observations, we're now moving beyond taking isolated snapshots of specific regions of exoplanet atmospheres, to study them as the 3D systems they truly are.

Its the coolest small planet that we know of around a star this bright, we know a lot about atmospheres of hot planets, but because its very hard to find small planets that orbit farther from their stars and are therefore cooler, we havent been able to learn much about these smaller, cooler planets.

We do not really know the details of how we go from small grains of dust to massive gas giants, if we're able to catch them at their birth we can see where they form in the disk. This will allow us to better understand how many planets we would expect in a typical system. We can also examine what the chemical and molecular content of the gas is like around the protoplanet and build a picture of what atmospheres are like on very young planets. These results will provide essential evidence for theoreticians trying to fill in the gaps about how planets grow.

Finding planets at this stage in their life is extremely hard and essentially boils down to finding enough evidence to show that only a planet could cause what we see, this is because the planets are still surrounded by gas and dust which is flowing on to them to form their atmospheres and trying to pierce through this surrounding material is nigh on impossible.

With those larger telescopes, we’ll be able to look for telltale signs in the atmospheres of those planets that might tell us what the planets are made of, and perhaps even whether they have the kinds of gases in their atmospheres that, on Earth, are an indication of life.

I hope that we can go after both of these systems' atmospheres so that we can compare them to each other, it's great that we have two systems, one in each flavor, so that we can actually see if this high-energy radiation actually does make a difference.

Now that we are able to see a lot of planets, 10 planets and see the full broad spectrum, we are able to see planets that have clear atmospheres and a lot of water and those that show little features are the cloudy ones, it definitely tells us exoplanets are very diverse and their composition is diverse.

It was a very strong reminder that even the best organizing in the world really only has an impact on the margins, it's important to acknowledge that atmospheres still matter, and the American people will have their say regardless of technology you are going to produce.

In regards to my work, I am trying to create atmospheres. I am, perhaps, not so much interested in the questions of details but on the way that the light is absorbed or reflected by the surface. I employ the tension of light and shadow to heighten the suggestion of spiritual qualities, much like the Spanish Realists of the seventeenth century. And always I am trying to reflect the present. For the present contains the memory of the past, even though the painting is the result of an extensive span.

It would be ridiculous to talk of male and female atmospheres, male and female springs or rains, male and female sunshine....How much more ridiculous is it in relation to mind, to soul, to thought, where there is as undeniably no such thing as sex...
