Tissa was a unit of time in Sri Lanka and probably also in ancient India. A time period of "One-day" had 60 Tissas or 30 Tissas day time and 30 Tissas night time. The word is still used in rural Sri Lanka. A Sinhalese synonym for Tissa is "Paya (pæyə)" or " Peya (peyə)". However, in modern usage the Sinhalese word one "Paya" means one hour and so a complete day period has 24 hrs.
