Wikidata

  1. Serena

Serena was a noblewoman of the late Western Roman Empire. In 384, Theodosius arranged her marriage to a rising military officer, Stilicho. Stilicho's marriage to Serena ensured his loyalty to the House of Theodosius in the years ahead. A resident at the court of her cousin, Honorius, she selected a bride for the court poet, Claudian, and took care of Honorius' half-sister, her cousin Galla Placidia. She and Stilicho had a son, Eucherius, and two daughters, Maria and Thermantia, both of whom married Honorius. Zosimus records how Serena, a Christian, took a necklace from a statue of Rhea Silvia and placed it on her own neck. An old woman, the last of the Vestal Virgins, appeared, who rebuked Serena and called down punishment upon her for her act of impiety. Serena was then subject to dreadful dreams predicting her own untimely death. Stilicho was executed on Honorius' orders in 408. During the siege of Rome by the Visigoths the following year, Serena was falsely accused of conspiring with the Goths, and was executed with Galla Placidia's consent.

For me, I think it just shows that I'm capable of playing with the best -- I got a set off Serena Williams, had Serena Williams close in the second set, too. Had some chances. There's a lot of electricity about our young players coming up... Madison Keyes is emerging, Sloane Stephens seems to be back on track, and there's also Taylor Townsend and Christina McHale, obviously at the top you've got Serena and Venus( Williams), so that shows that the diversity in the sport is really high here in America with these kids emerging and having a great stride. I think the sport is growing.

  5. Margaret Court:

American Serena Williams is American Serena Williams, more with American Serena Williams than other girls it is American Serena Williams power. American Serena Williams has a great serve, unless there's some really young ones coming through that cause upsets, you can't see any reason why American Serena Williams shouldn't.
