  1. Recueillement

Recueillement is the French word for introversion. In the English language it pertains to a genre of contemporary poetry. A recueillement is a combination of internal monologue and narrative poetry invented by the American poet Joseph Raleigh after his brief studies in Paris. It is generally aimed as an insight to the speaker's mind, a reflective speech in which "no one was intended to hear". This particular genre of poetry is found in both verse and prose and does not follow any form other than subject matter. In more recent years, however, poets have begun to debate the true intended form of the recueillement. While some purists argue that is was originally meant to be written in strict iambic pentameter, the more surrealistic poets claim that the form is much more fluid. Some surrealist extremists, though, believe that a receueillement is meant to be a poem of false thoughts, triggered by the absolute mundane. These extremists are in the overwhelming minority.
