Wikipedia

  1. Prophetic biography

Al-Sīra al-Nabawiyya (Arabic: السيرة النبوية), commonly shortened to Sīrah and translated as prophetic biography, are the traditional Muslim biographies of Muhammad from which, in addition to the Quran and Hadiths, most historical information about his life and the early period of Islam is derived. The most striking issue regarding the life of Muhammad and early Islamic history is the emergence of the source information as the irregular products of the oral storytelling culture and the increasing progress of the details over the centuries. Lawrence Conrad examines the biography books written in the early post-oral period and sees that in these works, an 85-year time interval regarding the date of birth of Muhammad is exhibited. Conrad describes this as "the fluidity (evolutionary process) still going on" in the story.
