    "OKHOTSK" [OXOTCK] most probably comes from the Russian word "ohota" (spelled in English "okhota"), which means "hunting," with the connotation of "hunting whales, orcas, seals" and other sea mammals. In the olden days it also meant "fishing" a.k.a. "sea hunting."
