Mahajan is an Indian title and a surname ( Eg. Navya Mahajan). The term Māhajana(Devanagari:महाजन) as a title, though much common in the past,and is still sometimes used to denote traders,merchants,moneylenders,administrators of villages,religious organizations,who owned land & other properties. They originally lived in the areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh & Punjab, while many of them have also gone to Haryana, Delhi & other plaves of India, primarily the northern & to some extent Central Indian States. They even came from several castes generally considereed as high.
