liberty cap
A liberty cap is a soft, conical brimless hat that has historically symbolized freedom, revolutionary ideals, or the pursuit of liberty. The hat derives its name from the Roman "pileus," which was given to freed slaves in ancient times as a symbol of their emancipation. It has been a significant emblem during the French and American revolutions. It is also the common English name of a species of psychedelic mushrooms (Psilocybe semilanceata).
