  1. larix laricina

Larix laricina, commonly known as the tamarack, hackmatack, or eastern larch, is a species of coniferous tree native to the cool temperate northern parts of North America. It is known for its characteristic feature of shedding its short, needle-like leaves during the winter season, unlike most conifers which remain evergreen. This small to medium-sized, deciduous conifer can grow up to 20 meters tall, typically in swamps, bogs, and other wetland habitats. Its timber is resistant to rot, making it valuable for uses such as fence posts and railway ties.
