Indo people
Indo people, short for Indo-European people, are a Eurasian people of mixed European and indigenous Indonesian ancestry originating from the Southeast Asian region that became the Dutch East Indies, and their descendants. After and during the Indonesian revolution for independence following WWII most Indos emigrated from Indonesia. They generally are people of predominantly European ancestry, as a result of migration to Western countries. People of Indo ancestry are now primarily found in the Netherlands and Indonesia, but also Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. As a group Indos developed over a period of more than 400 years. Most are Dutch citizens and have great variety of combinations of diverse European and Asian ancestries. Family names indicate that diversity of origins, although most family names are uniformly European. Indo-European is a term that dates back to the 19th century colonial period of the Dutch East Indies. Other common terms used for this group are Indische people, which is derived from the Dutch term Indische Nederlanders. In the USA they are also known as Dutch-Indonesians.
