Gymnasiade
The Gymnasiade, or World Gymnasiade, is an international multi-sport event which is organised by the International School Sport Federation (ISF). It is the largest event among many other sport events held by the ISF. The 17th edition of ISF Gymnasiade was organised by Morocco in 2018 with more than 3000 young athletes representing 58 countries. It was the biggest Gymnasiade so far and the first ever International Multisport event for youth held in Africa. There are 12 obligatory sport competitions at Gymnasiade with 3 optional and 2 additional, hosts sports. The obligatory sports are: Archery, athletics, Boxing, Chess, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis and Wrestling. The 2018 edition also held competitions in Petanque, Road cycling, Surfing and Golf. Aligned with the philosophy of the organisation, only pupils between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to compete.The first edition of the Gymnasiade was held in 1974 in Wiesbaden, Germany and it featured solely gymnastics, athletics and swimming competitions. Since then, 17 editions of Gymnasiade had been held with the most recent in 2018 and hosted by Morocco. The next edition will be held in Jinjiang, China in 2020.
