Attentio S.A. provides tools for social media monitoring from its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Attentio is an infomediary that aggregates online news and social media from across the globe to identify online topics and sentiments about brands and products. Attentio was founded in 2004 by Per Siljubergsåsen, a European internet serial entrepreneur and Simon McDermott. The founders met at the Vlerick Leuven Gent MBA program in Belgium. Attentio technology monitors and measures buzz, sentiment and topics across a wide range of social media sources in over 30 languages. The ongoing analysis aims at making clients more responsive and identify new market opportunities while reducing the need for traditional, more expensive market research. The main product, the Attentio Brand Dashboard, provides online access to product and brand information. In 2010 Amaia Lasa became CEO and William Klippgen became Chairman. The company received multiple awards including a Red Herring nomination, a Brussels Start-Up award and Best Demo Award at the 2009 Int'l AAAI conference. In 2010 Attentio acquired market research technology company 365Research. Colin Sanders became CEO in May 2011, later a new online dashboard was launched with additional data sources including Twitter. In 2012 Attentio was acquired by Progressive Media. Attentio technology is still being used in Europe and New Zealand.
