Wikipedia

  1. Roomba

Roomba is a series of autonomous robotic vacuum cleaners made by the company iRobot. Introduced in September 2002, they have a set of sensors that enable them to navigate the floor area of a home. These sensors can detect the presence of obstacles, particularly dirty spots on the floor, and steep drops (e.g., to avoid falling down stairs). As of 2022, iRobot markets models of their 600, i, j, Combo and s9 series, while continuing to provide support and sell accessories for their previous series. Various models have different features, including tangle-free brushes, separate sweep canisters, more powerful vacuums, obstacle avoidance, and performance maps displayed via smartphone apps. Newer high-end models also have a camera, which works in conjunction with onboard mapping and navigation software to systematically cover all floor area, move from room to room, avoid obstacles such as pet waste and charging cables, and find recharging bases and beacons. Roombas allow some customizability and reprogramming. Parts of some models are interchangeable, allowing owners to mix and match features, or switch to other units for longer battery operation. Additionally, some units can be adapted to perform more creative tasks using an embedded computer in conjunction with the Roomba Open Interface.

  1. Roomba

Roomba is a series of autonomous robotic vacuum cleaners sold by iRobot. Under normal house conditions, the Roomba is able to autonomously vacuum the floor while navigating and avoiding obstacles. Roomba was introduced in 2002. As of February 2011, over 6 million units have been sold worldwide. It features a set of basic sensors that help it perform its tasks. For instance, the Roomba is able to change direction upon impact with obstacles, detect dirty spots on the floor, and detect drops to keep itself from falling down stairs. It uses two independently operating wheels to allow for 360 degree turns. Additionally, it can be adapted to perform other more "creative" tasks via an embedded computer in conjunction with the Roomba Open Interface.
