pixel
A pixel, which is a portmanteau of the words "picture" and "element", is the smallest unit of a digital image or graphic that can be manipulated. It is often represented as a single point in a raster image, or a single point in a grid of points in a digital display. Each pixel has its own specific color value, often comprising levels of red, green, and blue, which allows images to be created with a variety of colors and shades. Pixels are the building blocks used to create digital imagery on screens and displays.

Pixel
In digital imaging, a pixel, or pel, is a physical point in a raster image, or the smallest addressable element in a display device; so it is the smallest controllable element of a picture represented on the screen. The address of a pixel corresponds to its physical coordinates. LCD pixels are manufactured in a two-dimensional grid, and are often represented using dots or squares, but CRT pixels correspond to their timing mechanisms and sweep rates. Each pixel is a sample of an original image; more samples typically provide more accurate representations of the original. The intensity of each pixel is variable. In color image systems, a color is typically represented by three or four component intensities such as red, green, and blue, or cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. In some contexts, the term pixel is used to refer to a single scalar element of a multi-component representation, while in others the term may refer to the entire set of such component intensities for a spatial position. In color systems that use chroma subsampling, the multi-component concept of a pixel can become difficult to apply, since the intensity measures for the different color components correspond to different spatial areas in such a representation.

Examples of Pixel in a Sentence
It leads to a different way of looking at galaxies, where we always seen them as completely static in the sky, unchanging on human time scales, in fact, they are shimmering. They are shimmering constantly. Every pixel in the image is getting brighter and fainter and they are not constant at all, which is sort of a different way of almost thinking about the light in the universe.
Up until now, Pixel was more like a hobby than an actual business.
Google never intended Google Pixel to be Google Pixel, the idea was that they would use the Pixel devices to showcase the Google Android ecosystem, demonstrating to their partners what could be done with top-end hardware and the latest Android software.
It’s somewhere in some photo [collection] a friend of mine took but in a few years I will have forgotten who took it, we’re doing research on cracking the image open and understanding it at the individual pixel level. This is called image segmentation. We’re building the ability to understand the individual objects that compose an image.
There are a lot of lessons Google is learning along the way about distribution and manufacturing. And I think they'll get those issues sorted out hopefully before the Pixel 2 launches and definitely by the time it launches.
