Origin: Short form of Alana, or from Лана, diminutive of several names icluding Светлана.
Lana is a comune in South Tyrol in northern Italy. It is situated between Bolzano and Merano. The population rose to 11,206 in 2010. It is one of the three municipalities of South Tyrol whose name remained unchanged by the Italian fascist renaming programme which aimed at replacing mostly German place names with Italianized versions, the other two being Gais and Plaus.
