flu
The flu, or influenza, is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract that primarily affects the nose, throat, and lungs. It typically presents with sudden onset of symptoms like fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, fatigue, sore throat, and cough. The illness can range from mild to severe, potentially causing complications such as pneumonia, heart problems, or death in people with weakened immune systems or other underlying conditions. It spreads primarily through respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing, or by touching a surface contaminated by the virus and then touching the mouth or nose.

Flu activity is unusually low at this time but may increase in the coming months.

This one, for whatever reason, much more dangerous if you're 65 and plus than the flu, no doubt about that, if you're younger it just hasn't had an impact. So that should factor into how we're viewing this.
We may see peaks of flu and COVID-19 at the same time, which could overwhelm the health care system, strain testing capacity and potentially reduce our ability to catch and treat both respiratory illnesses effectively.
I hope this makes a lot of seniors really excited about the news that they are now eligible for boosters if they're six months out, and as we're going into winter we want to be sure that everyone's immunity is up, so now would also be a good time for those seniors to go ahead and think about boosters and flu shots.
The risk went from something that we hadn’t really dealt with specifically like this before in our lifetimes – we hadn't quite had an illness this infectious and this possible to cause serious illness – to something that does look more like the flu. The flu of course can still be dangerous … but we don't orient our lives around the flu.
