  1. 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers, colloquially known as the Sixers, are an American professional basketball team based in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The 76ers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and play at the Wells Fargo Center located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Founded in 1946 and originally known as the Syracuse Nationals, they are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA and one of only eight (out of 23) to survive the league's first decade. The 76ers have had a prominent history, with many Hall of Fame players having played for the organization, including Dolph Schayes, Hal Greer, Wilt Chamberlain, Chet Walker, Billy Cunningham, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, George McGinnis, and Allen Iverson. They have won three NBA championships, with their first coming under their previous name, the Syracuse Nationals, in 1955. The second title came in 1967, a team which was led by Chamberlain. The third title came in 1983, won by a team led by Erving and Malone. The 76ers have only been back to the NBA Finals once since then: in 2001, where they were led by Iverson and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Chamberlain, Erving, Malone and Iverson have been named the NBA's Most Valuable Player while playing for the 76ers, for a total of six MVP awards.

Examples of 76ers in a Sentence

  1. Mitchell Leff/Getty Images:

You write your own narrative. What’s going on, I don’t want to crush any other players, but what’s going on with the 76ers, Ben Simmons, stuff like that. All that is because of a lack of accountability, a lack of owning up to mistakes and a lack of correcting things, if all that got corrected, you fix the free throws, if you’re getting better as a player, none of this is happening. Everybody can b---- and complain about how tough this city is to play in. Just play better, man. This city will love you.

  2. Joel Embiid:

The Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. Jaylen Brown had 21 points and Jason Tatum added 15 for The Celtics. Joel Embiid had 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead the 76ers. They shot 29.5 % from the field. I dont want to be swept.

  3. Joel Embiid:

The Celtics entered the game having outscored the 76ers 87-42 from beyond the 3-point arc, but were just 8 of 31 on Friday night. Yet The Celtics was better than the 76ers, who were 9 of 39. We couldnt make a shot.

  4. Tobias Harris:

Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Tobias Harris added 20 points and five rebounds despite leaving briefly after a scary fall that bloodied Tobias Harris left eye. Embiid couldnt put a finger on one thing that upended the team this postseason. Theres a lot of regrets, i feel like the focus wasnt always there. We just got ta look ourselves in the mirror and do better. Tobias Harris was trying to contest a shot by Jayson Tatum at the 2:40 mark of the third quarter and inadvertently had Jayson Tatum legs taken out from under Jayson Tatum by Jayson Tatum. Harris fell on the left side of his face and laid on the court for several minutes as medical staff attended to him. He suffered a left eye laceration and was cleared of a possible concussion. He returned to the game with 5:12 left in the fourth with a bandage over his left eye. I felt OK enough to go back out there and try and do something to help us win.

  5. Amir Johnson:

I take full responsibility and will accept the consequences of my actions, i also apologize to my teammates, the 76ers organization and the fans for the distraction this has caused.
