We’re all vulnerable to whistleblowers, leakers, I wish it wasn’t so but we all are, i don’t like people leaking my things or anybody else’s things but fundamentally that is the price we pay for being a liberal, open democracy where we trust people.

Discounting whistleblowers before the Democrats know what the witnesses have to offer says a lot more about their agenda than it does about the validity of the whistleblowers, procedural mistakes should splatter like paint. It’s messy but the results should be random. In my four years here every mistake DOJ has made has benefited one side and harmed the other. That’s a hell of a coincidence.

I'm not making a judgment about the culpability of somebody that was involved in this. The information we're after. But I do believe because of the great historical significance of this invasion of the home, that we need total transparency. And I believe particularly Director Wray of the FBI needs to make very clear that he understands, and I know to some extent he understands because I had whistleblowers tell me about the political bias that some people that are high up making decisions to investigate or not investigate. And he moved that person out of it. So he knows he has a problem. How big the problem is, I don't really know how big it is.

Whistleblowers will continue to carry the can alone unless member states demand the U.N. implement 21st century protections and act on issues raised. They can start by making sure that U.N. whistleblowers are protected for reporting directly to them.

There is tremendous negative pressure on police officers with regard to whistleblowing on fellow officers. Whistleblowers risk the threat of harsh penalties such as retaliation, ostracization, and harassment, an officer may be the only witness to a partners alleged misconduct, making the identification of the whistleblower obvious to all. Furthermore, the power of collective bargaining agreements between a city and its officers union has also been under scrutiny in recent days for prohibiting anonymous reporting.

Andrew McCabe's clearly targeting the person who's filed this complaint that affects Andrew McCabe seriously and is kind of laying the marker down that Andrew McCabe wants this person's identity and Andrew McCabe wants to be able to follow-up on this. So absolutely a total contravention of all the protections for whistleblowers, so you have to ask, was this some sort of a message to all of those folks and indeed a message to all people serving in the government that if they step forward with complaints, they can expect the President to come after them ?

Instead of trying to improve communications, Ron Johnson said, it appears ICE and its parent agency, DHS, are trying to root out Ron Johnson source. Ron Johnson believes the whistleblowers could face retribution for the revelation. The federal government has a very poor record of retaliation, we’ve held numerous hearings about this. It is really quite shocking how often the federal government retaliates. But I certainly will not stand for it, and I certainly don’t think this committee will stand for any retribution against those who had the courage to come forward to reveal this incident. Federal law expressly protects federal employees who provide information to Congress. In the Dec. 3 incident, USCIS agents were investigating Marquez for marriage fraud, stemming from his 2014 union with Mariya Chernykh, a Russian national married to Farook’s brother. Rodriguez told Johnson’s committee that it was a mistake for his agency’s San Bernardino office to refuse entry to ICE investigators.
