We're trying to maximize benefit and minimize adverse events of the vaccine, you have to take into account whether someone has already had COVID-19 because they may already be protected, and while the data is clear for vaccinating high-risk children … it is less clear vaccinating otherwise healthy children, whether there is any benefit, and there is no data showing that.

We know there is still much to be done to stop the spread of COVID-19 and end the pandemic. We are still seeing far too many new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, as we look forward to the spring, it's important to continue practicing prevention measures that we know work -- vaccinating, wearing a mask in public, indoor settings, staying home when you are sick, and washing your hands frequently.

Should there be a moratorium on boosters ? Absolutely. Should there be a moratorium on vaccinating people at low risk of severe disease or death ? Absolutely, our role is to make sure that we put forward the strongest possible arguments and way out of this pandemic, and the way out of that is a moratorium, and it's extended because since the last time we called for it, the equity gap's gotten greater, the amount of vaccine available to low income countries has gone down.

The sad reality is that we have a solution that adequately protects adolescents over sixteen years old. We have the Pfizer vaccine approved for that age group. So, we really shouldn't be seeing high case rates in that age group if we're successful with vaccinating late teens who are eligible, i am more worried about what we'll see in the next three weeks if trending follows to younger ages under 16. Without a vaccine solution yet for younger children, we're going to see more of what we're starting to hear now -- schools having to make decisions about pausing in-person learning for a week or so.

Every other high income country is doing at least one of three things... they are either vaccinating adolescents, or they're keeping in mitigation( measures) in schools such as masks and social distancing, isolation and( investing in) ventilation, or they're keeping community transmission low... most of them are doing two of those things. We're not doing any of them.

Currently, no SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is licensed for use in dogs although there's no reason to think that the ones approved for humans wouldn't work, but the low reported incidence of infections in dogs would make a phase 3 trial difficult.

We would start by vaccinating about 100,000 individuals in the first step. We would look at the hospitalization rates once we've done those vaccinations. And if we find that the hospitalization rates are below the threshold -- that we are looking at -- then we can be confident that the vaccine is efficacious... and if so, we can then proceed to continuing the rollout, if we find that the hospitalizations are substantial -- more than we anticipated -- then we would have to stop, take stock of where we are and perhaps switch to other vaccines.
