All of these seats are deeply important to us. We care about all of these vacancies, it’s not a secret that a large number of vacancies are in states with two Republican senators. But we are always here in good faith. We are here to work with home state senators.

Republicans won the majority first because of the tireless work Kevin McCarthy put in to recruiting the stars we needed to win tough races and raising the money to carry them to victory, our decision to engage in primaries to help standout candidates win and efforts to press the map deep in Democratic territory both proved to be critical in winning the seats that decided the majority.

We don't need this, plus, you know, he cost us the two Senate seats in Georgia… told people not to vote. He says he's going to Georgia and he'll be supporting Herschel Walker and telling people to vote. I hope that's the case. I hope he doesn't talk about himself, but talks about Herschel, but I have my worries.

While Kevin McCarthy and Tom Emmer were busy measuring their drapes and boasting that they would flip 60 to 70 seats, Democrats worked and drew a clear contrast between results-oriented Democrats who are working to lower costs and keep communities safe, and extreme Republicans who pose a real threat to reproductive freedoms, democracy, and everyday people’s pocketbooks.

While any seat lost is painful — some good Democrats didn’t win last night — Democrats had a strong night, and we lost fewer seats in the House of Representatives than any Democratic president’s first midterm election in the last 40 years, and we had the best midterm for governors since 1986.

The party of the president traditionally loses seats in midterm elections. High prices at the pump can exacerbate anger at the ‘incumbent’ party, to that end, the Biden administration went back on it promise regarding human rights and met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the visit to Saudi Arabia in hopes of increasing OPEC production and bringing down gas prices. While that had the temporary desired effect on prices, recent threats of OPEC production cuts will cause another spike in gas prices that could come at the worst possible time in the midterm election cycle for Democrats.

I hope that people are sick of the inflation. I think they're sick of being the poorest congressional district in the state. I think they're sick of the rising crime rate, rising groceries and everything, it just seems like this country is really at a turning point. And if we can't win in an open seat in this kind of a year in Oregon, it just seems like we're hopeless. So I certainly hope that we can take back the House and win a lot of these competitive seats in a year like this.
