You’re like a book I hate to read, a story I want to skip through to the end. You take my soul and blow me straight into hell. I’m high on wigged out poems, short shorts that don’t stop. Am I dead? I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S REAL! What about you?

spent some time gittin juiced on the junk you know and the poems would come thick and black, coffeelike, a little bitter you know and when the pores started jiving and all it'd be time to git on down and groove, let the words flow forth, try not to suffocate, live one more day.

we sweat through our doldrums somehow, sheer insane boredom; society can no longer focus and my poems keep drying up and blowing away.

i’ve been reading poems by notable poets about cows * sheep * pigeons * fish * deer & the like & honestly it makes me ill. i write about what i know: big cities, street gangs, the homeless, food stamps, death & suicide & i wonder who reads this boring crap, who gets inspired? I want it hard edged, baby, poems on razorblades cutting through skin, tendons, even bones, poems that make the blood flow & run deep in real rivers of life.

well it’s almost noon and i've done nothing all day, all my great plans shot to hell, of getting up at 7 and writing 3 new poems 1 new story 5 letters of sending out submissions to 4 new magazines and making several phone calls all by noon – so i'll just keep drinking coffee and reading from the stack of books on my kitchen table and maybe i'll go catch a flick and maybe just maybe i'll get half as much done tomorrow.

Sure, I’ve written about women and sex and madhouses, just like Bukowski did, but I’ve also written about many other topics, often utilizing other stylistic methods in doing so. Bukowski would probably have been annoyed with the rambling tone of my poems in Cells.

Poems are comprised of everyday material expertly arranged in ways that require a reader's time and reflection, but the reward is great: a memorable insight into our humanity, a line that perfectly encapsulates a moment or a truth we want to remember, an experience with language that provokes new ideas and deeper understanding.

I knew the book because I studied it at school. I was very excited to play Roland Leighton. I love the way he wrote those beautiful letters and poems to his loved one. I like doing that myself, and it’s really a lost art, actually, I have that Tom Hanks typewriting app. I love it. There’s no spell check so you really have to think it out.

Romance begins at 80, and I ought to know, i'm a romantic guy. You think I'm always shooting guns with John Wayne, but I can be romantic. And, listen, we're sitting here. We have been married for 60 years. A few poems help.

“Reading Aberjhani's poems will leave you swimming in thoughts of completeness. To see and hear the voice of another human being express such quality of life, such peacefulness in thought, such pride in character is beyond words… It's a true sign to the talent and gift he has when it comes to constructing words in such a way that leaves you feeling like a certain thirst has been quenched… It is a validation to the simple task of being human, of feeling love in small spaces, in odd and familiar places, in dreams and in thoughts.”

She opened up a book of poems and handed it to me written by an Italian poet from the 13th century and every one of them words rang true and glowed like burning coal pouring off of every page like it was written in my soul from me to you.

Sometimes I have a notion that what might improve the situation is to have women take over the occupations of government and trade and to give men their freedom. Let them do what they are best at. While we scrawl interoffice memos and direct national or extranational affairs, men could spend all their time inventing wheels, peering at stars, composing poems, carving statues, exploring continents -- discovering, reforming, or crying out in a sacramental wilderness. Efficiency would probably increase, and no one would have to worry so much about the Gaza Strip or an election.

I do not like poems that resemble hay compressed into a geometrically perfect cube. I like it when the hay, unkempt, uncombed, with dry berries mixed in it, thrown together gaily and freely, bounces along atop some truck-and more, if there are some lovely and healthy lasses atop the hay-and better yet if the branches catch at the hay, and some of it tumbles to the road.

I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.
