You all know who the kids are that are involved with the guns. Who have access to guns, they're your kids. They're your neighbors. They're your grandkids. They're your nieces and your nephews. Stop sitting on your bottoms and doing nothing about it.

These victims are far more than a number, it's not about when we reach 200, 300, 500, 600. These are people. These victims are brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, nieces, nephews, mentees, team members, classmates, many of them children. And for those whose lives have been tragically cut short, their life has left a void in the hearts of their families and their absence has left a profound impact on our community.

I don't care if I lose my life if that means my nieces and my nephews won't have to deal with someone invalidating them because of the color of their skin, it sounds extreme and it might sound dramatic to people, but as a black person every day that I wake up I could die. Especially as a black woman dealing with sexism and dealing with racism I'm combating double the trouble.

These are challenging times in the United States of America -- we have a hater in the White House, a birther in chief, the grand wizard of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, one of the things that we've learned is that while Jim Crow may be dead, he still got some nieces and nephews that are alive and well.

We really haven't not had much of an opportunity to have private moments, i know the world lost The Queen of Soul, but The Queen of Soul sons lost their mother, her nieces and nephews lost their aunt... we lost a family member and we haven't had a chance to come together as a group to truly realize that we have lost one who loved us so much and was so loyal to us.

I am sure she will be really sad she doesn't have children so I don't want this to be 'Andrea has children, Theresa hasn't' because I think that would be really horrible, but genuinely I feel being a mum means you have a very real stake in the future of our country, a tangible stake. She possibly has nieces, nephews, lots of people. But I have children who are going to have children who will directly be a part of what happens next.

I have these two beautiful nieces, and I’m thinking, you know, it’s important to me that I know them, it’s important to me that they know me, i’m a busy woman, but I would be no role model if I didn’t actually show them how to get it all done.

A moment later I remembered that the young woman having spent five years in Germany, would naturally have learnt the language, but then I heard that when she was rescued from that canal in 1920, she spoke nothing but German – when she spoke at all- which was not often. I readily admit that a ghastly horror experienced in one’s youth can work havoc with one’s memory but I have never heard of any ghastly experience endowing anyone with a knowledge they had not had before it happened. My nieces knew no German at all. Mrs Anderson did not seem to understand a word of Russian or English, the two languages all the four sisters had spoken since babyhood. French came a little later, but German was never spoken in the family.
