We’re not totally surprised that when the New York state legislature decided to abolish the statute of limitations, it was going to lead to a number of stale allegations that are being revived, our position is that the statute is unconstitutional, because it revives claims that have been barred by the statute of limitation for a long time, and that it sets a very dangerous precedent, legally speaking, and not just in the context of old assaults.

If a majority are capable of preferring their own private interest, or that of their families, counties, and party, to that of the nation collectively, some provision must be made in the constitution, in favor of justice, to compel all to respect the common right, the public good, the universal law, in preference to all private and partial considerations... And that the desires of the majority of the people are often for injustice and inhumanity against the minority, is demonstrated by every page of history... To remedy the dangers attendant upon the arbitrary use of power, checks, however multiplied, will scarcely avail without an explicit admission some limitation of the right of the majority to exercise sovereign authority over the individual citizen... In popular governments [democracies], minorities [individuals] constantly run much greater risk of suffering from arbitrary power than in absolute monarchies...

Owners recognize and support the need to help tenants without sufficient financial resources to pay rent due to job loss or health circumstances. However, this proposed bill extends the eviction moratorium for residential tenants based on the submission of a simple declaration of financial hardship without proving such hardship caused by COVID-related job loss or income reduction, with no requirement of proof that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected their income, and no income limitation to qualify for eviction protection, a tenant whose household income went from a half-million dollars to $250,000 would qualify for eviction protection by declaring that their income has been significantly reduced.

Statute of limitations: Once a crime happens its apart of history forever, it will never go away. Maybe memories fade, maybe witnesses die, maybe evidence gets lost, destroyed, tampered with, or expires but the crimes themselves never actually expire. Therefore they require justice. The only time there should ever be a limitation on charging a crime is if there's not enough truth, facts, and evidence to support it. You don't ever want to convict innocent people of crimes they never committed, you don't ever want to unjustly penalize people. As long as there's enough truth, facts and evidence to support the crime then just penalties should be administered to the appropriate people no matter if its been a 100 plus years since the crime took place. If there's no justice for the crime in life then justice is required for the crime in the afterlife. Either way it go's justice is required for the crime. You don't ever want guilty people getting away with crimes, whether it's in life or in the after life.
