I don't think, when it comes to audio, there's any risk of a single news organization somehow monopolizing the industry. Go on iTunes, go on any of the podcast charts, and you will see thousands of shows, and you will see hundreds of newsrooms making podcasts. They're finding an audience, it's difficult for me to understand how The Daily success is a negative for any other podcast. I think this is kind of like rising tide lifts all boats.

A big part of( their success) was iTunes coming along, for the first time, people could catch up on shows and start to binge shows... who knows if this show would have been anything without iTunes.

The company has historically had rocky relations with other hardware makers, preferring to imagine a world in which everyone buys an Apple device, then powers it with Apple services, this was the model for the original iPod, as most people forget. You couldn't use iTunes on a PC originally. Eventually Apple got wise.
