We're not going to eradicate this coronavirus like we've done with smallpox ; it is something that I think is going to settle into a more seasonal pattern, like the flu and colds... but right now, because it's novel and so many people are not immune to it, it's really ripping through the population. There's every reason to suspect that this virus, even though it can kill you, behaves pretty much like a cold virus, in terms of transmission. Who drives colds? Children drive colds, and that's true of almost all respiratory diseases, including the colds and including the colds that are caused by coronaviruses. And this is one of those cousins.

The kids had colds and were sick and said they didn't have access to soap to wash their hands. It was an alcohol-based cleanser. Some kids who were detained for two to three weeks had only one or two opportunities to shower, one said they hadn't showered in three weeks. Hygiene and living conditions like this creates a risk of spreading infectious disease. It makes me very concerned about the public health emergency.
