Back in the Wham! days, he experimented with cocaine, but he didn’t really like it, in the early ‘90s, George got into ecstasy. But then Anselmo Feleppa, who was no doubt the love of his life and his soulmate, died in 1993 of AIDS. He was racked with pain. He turned to pot and became a full-time stoner. His album ‘Older' was made completely under the influence of pot. Then around 2003, 2004, he got into a party drug called GHB. In my opinion, more than anything, that’s the drug that did him in. But he didn’t stop there. He got into crack cocaine and was arrested for possession of that.

The ER doctor called in the middle of the night and said,' Your son overdosed, and The ER doctor's dead.' Just that matter-of-fact, and I didn't believe The ER doctor at first. Then I just screamed and cried on the floor, and my husband took the phone, he got some heroin, and apparently it was laced with cocaine and fentanyl. I don't think that he knew that. He used it, he overdosed, and he died instantly. The ER doctor said The ER doctor probably didn't know it was laced with the cocaine and fentanyl.

Things started getting really bad when I started doing cocaine, i started doing ecstasy and really heavy drugs. I came so close to overdosing and just being on the brink of losing my life so many times. But when you’re entangled in addiction, you just don’t care about your life. You’re already in so much pain at that point that you start to not even care if you lose it.

The crack/powder sentencing disparity has unquestionably led to unjustified differences in sentences for trafficking in two forms of the same substance, as well as unwarranted racial disparities in its application, the sentencing disparity was based on misinformation about the pharmacology of cocaine and its effects, and it is unnecessary to address the genuine and critical societal problems associated with trafficking cocaine, including violent crime.
