Have you ever seen somebody die? It’s not like in the movies, not to me. You don’t close their peaceful eyes and pray for their soul. Rather their eyes are full of horror. People say taken in the flower of their youth, how sad yet these people get to escape a lifetime of hell and still people mourn. I laugh in honor of the dead. may they rot in peace.

Sadly, they also have very, very high levels of nicotine. Just the tobacco products themselves, they have really exploded. Part of it is the lack of regulation, and then on top of that, there’s these new oral nicotine products that are unfortunately gaining a lot of popularity from our youth.

Youth organizations are crying out for government support. There’s funding there that ca n’t be given out – because there’s no government – and these youth services are going to close. Young people rely on it so much. I honestly ca n’t even begin to imagine the impact this will have on their lives, it feels like all these issues are more important than sectarian politics – but it feels like if we do n’t address sectarianism – then we ca n’t deal with these issues.

It is appalling to see Kentucky lawmakers work so hastily on dangerous legislation that will only put young LGBTQ Kentuckians in harm’s way, in the last year, nearly half of LGBTQ youth in Kentucky seriously considered suicide – alarmingly, nearly 1 in 4 transgender and nonbinary youth in the state made a suicide attempt. Our leaders are pushing political wedge issues and sidestepping the real challenges like addressing the youth mental health crisis.

Youth are searching for that sense of belonging, that kind of grounding to explain what’s happening to them. In the last few years, more youth have had to turn to communities online. We’ve seen a degradation of in-person social skills.

The current climate’s a mess, i just don’t understand what drag has to do with any of this… In the last few weeks, I’ve seen (reports of) people arrested for assaulting children; not a single one of them was a drag queen. They were preachers and teachers and youth leaders. Why are you so obsessed with trans people and drag people? The problem is at your door. This is something that, in the last few years, has been turned into an issue that never existed. It’s never been with us.

We’re not going back to ‘Be All You Can Be,’ because in the 1980s, the country exuded a sense of optimism. Think about the bright shining light on the hill. And the ‘Be All You Can Be’ of the 1980s reflected how youth felt about their future. That’s not the same feeling that youth have about their future today, they worry about being the first generation not to outpace their parents. So as we introduce ‘Be All You Can Be’ in 2023, to a new generation, we’re trying to reposition the army in their minds around the possibilities. It’s less about being all you can be already, and more about becoming all you can be.

This is a devastating and dangerous violation of the rights and privacy of transgender Utahns, their families, and their medical providers, claims of protecting our most vulnerable with these laws ring hollow when lawmakers have trans children’s greatest protectors – their parents, providers, and the youth themselves – pleading in front of them not to cut them off from their care.

Legislation that impacts our most vulnerable youth requires careful consideration and deliberation. While not a perfect bill, we are grateful for Sen. Kennedy’s more nuanced and thoughtful approach to this terribly divisive issue, more and more experts, states and countries around the world are pausing these permanent and life-altering treatments for new patients until more and better research can help determine the long-term consequences.

We are dealing with what may be the biggest medical and ethical scandal of modern times, transgender medicine is big business, and youth who are transitioning today will be medical patients for life, for the next 60-plus years. Mental health among youth is at an all-time low, making them particularly vulnerable to solutions that suggest an ‘ easy fix. ’.

It is very unusual in medicine to see such substantial international differences among wealthy countries in the approach their medical authorities take to treating patients, while major American medical organizations assert that puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are safe and effective for treating gender dysphoric youth, some of these European countries, all of which have a more progressive climate for LGBT + people, have taken a closer look at the evidence.

Cardiac events during sports are uncommon for anyone, said Dr. Stuart Berger, division head of cardiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. While they can also occur in kids and teens, these injuries can happen whether or not people play sports. While many children can get injured on the field, the numbers are mostly declining – and sports are important for their physical and mental health, doctors say. They explain how to prevent and treat sports injury in kids. How many kids get injured playing sports Overall injuries due to youth participation in football show a dramatic decline since 2013, plateauing in 2020 and heading back up in 2021, according to the most recent figures from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Children should receive an hour of exercise per day. WavebreakMediaMicro/Adobe Stock Convincing your child to leave the screens behind to exercise is hard. Heres how to do it More than a million kids ages 5 to 14 were injured in sports and required a trip to the emergency room, according to the commission. Along with sports like basketball, soccer and football, the agency also reported significant injuries from things like playground equipment and skateboards. Children between the ages of 5 and 14 were most likely to be injured in football in 2021 : There were 110,171 reported injuries in children ages 5 to 14 in 2021, compared to 92,802 in youth and young adults aged 15 to 24. Soccer and basketball were also high risk for kids ’ injuries with 59,000 and 79,207 injuries, respectively. The sports with the highest rates of concussion were : boys ’ football, with 10.4 concussions per 10,000 athlete exposures ; girls ’ soccer, with 8.19 per 10,000 athlete exposures ; and boys ’ ice hockey, with 7.69 per 10,000 athlete exposures, according to a 2019 study. High contact sports like hockey, football, lacrosse and martial arts might be higher risk for serious injuries such as head injury, but even seemingly safer sports like swimming and track pose some risk for overuse injuries. And they all can be made safer with the right strategy, said Dr. Erin Grieb, pediatric primary care sports medicine physician at Stanford Medicine Children’s Orthopedic and Sports Stanford Medicine Center. Here’s what to do if your child plays sports. What to look out for When it comes to cardiac events, screening is crucial, Stuart Berger said. Generally, kids are safe to play sports and exercise without concern for cardiac events, but with all types of sports, it is important to do a physical with family history to identify those who might be at risk, he added. ‘ The concerns are that maybe there is somebody with an underlying cardiac abnormality, the screening is designed to bring that out and that we can identify, if possible, who those kids are.

My entire life … the cultural story has always been about our youth. And it’s always been about us as this sort of young disruptive generation that was too spoiled, that had arrested development, that was upending family life, retirement, housing, employment, we’ve grown up seeing ourselves that way, as the young upstarts, as the disruptors, as the people around whom culture, and especially youth culture, are shaped. Of course we’re going to feel fed up about the fact that we’re now middle aged.

The most important factor is to call for elections, give people the right to choose their leaders, give the younger generation the opportunity to be represented in the system and to have their opinion heard, at this time, [ the youth ] come to only one conclusion, they will hear you only if you use guns. And that is, of course, a dangerous situation for which not only The Palestinian Authority is responsible, but mainly it is Israel that is responsible for creating this situation.

We have over incarcerated our youth as well as our adults, but we've also done it in a particularly poor way with the inclusion of SROs at our schools, so, one of the things that I've been focusing on is: What should the role of law enforcement be inside our schools? And I am a proponent of, first, eliminating SROs and diverting that money back to school counselors. So many of our students go to schools without counselors or nurses, and those should be the first-line responders when it comes to solving student problems.
