That’s a loaded question, you know, leading into this, especially coming up through the minor leagues and rookie ball, you want to be a free agent, test the market a little bit and see what’s out there. But that’s one thing, I’ve been lucky enough to play in the best organization out of all of them, so who wants to go anywhere else ?

Through thick and thin, we had each other’s backs, we used to talk and dream about how it would be like to play in the big leagues. He had more power, he was faster, and definitely had an exponentially better throwing arm than me, so we used to joke around about him being called up by the Yankees first.

You look at the NET rating, and it’s not even close where the Big 12 is compared to the other leagues, and that’s because you’ve got a bunch of great teams. That means they don’t lose a lot, and they don’t lose at home hardly ever.

I think the way the other leagues have handled it, obviously it seems to be working and they’re playing games and we’re watching the football games [Sunday] after practice, so I think with everything, we have to evolve with what we’ve gone through and I think it’s probably time to look at things.

Obviously we have a little bit of an issue at the border. We have more Canadian teams than those other leagues, which is unique but, like, I’m sitting at home at Christmas watching the NBA playing at Madison Square Garden, and it’s like kind of weird to me.

( Professional athletes) want to play, just like we want to watch them play and the fact that we're still watching sports in the middle of a worldwide pandemic is remarkable, but we've got to be careful because teams start losing games, players start falling out, this is what can move to shutting things down for a week or two, and that's what leagues are trying to avoid.

The short answer is money. It’s what’s driving (the leagues’) decisions to continue to play, even in the face of these outbreaks, i don’t think they will reduce the number of fans or shut down the entire season.

To me that’s a bit bizarre that fans have to be vaccinated and players are not, so I think that in my opinion, it’s inevitable that it will be mandated at some point, like other leagues are doing.

The fact that it’s even considered a race just amazes me, if you’re just going by a generated numerical metric, you’re going to be deceived often. I have n’t seen that body of work in a season, better than him. I ’m going to say this, he’s the best infielder. Him and( A's third baseman Matt) Chapman are two of the best infielders I’ve seen this year. Do n’t tell me there’s anybody out there, both leagues, that play that position like he does.

An encouraging step for Sevy, we don’t want to feel like we’re rushing him back for a guy that hasn’t pitched in the big leagues for close to 20-plus months. You don’t want to take him out of his rehab assignment – essentially his spring training – early.

I think that we have to get to a space where athletes, where men in general and where parents, mentors, teachers... start to stretch and force and crack the idea of masculinity open, sports leagues have an opportunity and a responsibility to continue to widen our definitions of manhood, knowing that the more that they create spaces for people to be more themselves, the better player they'll actually be.
