However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.'

The debate over LGBTQ+ issues is a great example of how the real Jesus too often gets lost, overlooked or distorted in debates over political and social issues, our focus is on helping people see and consider Jesus as he is shown in the Bible … He gets us and he loves us, and that includes people on all sides of these issues.

A lot of times when people look at Christianity, unfortunately they see it as much more hypocritical, judgmental, discriminatory, we’re trying to unify the American people around the confounding love and forgiveness [of Jesus].

We are wanting to say — ‘we’ being a lot of different people — that he gets us, [Jesus] understands us. He loves who we hate. I think we have to let the public know and create a movement.

Truth never tranquilizes. The defining property of truth is its ability to disturb. Jesus only told half the story. The truth 'will' set you free. But, first it's going to piss you off.

It comes as news to most people to learn that practically all important ethical teachers -- Moses, Aristotle, Jesus, Mohammed, and Saint Thomas Aquinas, for instance -- have denounced lending at interest as usury and as morally wrong.

He came back in very bad shape. He thought he was Jesus. He was constantly paranoid, thinking people were after him. And it took a good year or two to get back to, you know, being halfway normal.

If we fail to apply the teachings of our faith to questions like immigration or Herschel Walker’s behavior or Donald Trump’s behavior in the way that Kamala Harris thinks we should, we wind up being scolded and encouraged to let our faith shape our moral and political decisions more aggressively, but when it comes to questions like abortion, Kamala Harris is willing to offer instruction about how we should divorce our faith from our moral and political decisions. I choose to let the teachings of Jesus instruct me about how to apply my faith. I show respect for our Vice-President by praying for Kamala Harris and by loving Kamala Harris as my neighbor, and I show respect for the fellow human beings waiting for their chance to be born by opposing their slaughter in the abortionist’s chamber.

All students deserve better. And Brigham Young University should lead all Christian education and kindness and love and inclusion, and if we're following the example of Jesus Christ, then there's nothing that should stop us from wanting to help educate and include other people.

I had already given my life to Jesus. I got off the drugs and all of that. But here I was getting ready for surgery. I couldn’t stop crying. All I kept thinking was, ‘God, why me?’ I think we all reach that point in our lives where we wonder why certain things are happening to us… But we’ve got to find a sense of purpose even when we’re going through those tough times. I just remember saying, ‘God, I know you’re going to make this work for my good at some point, even if I don’t understand it, even if I don’t see it. It will work out for the good.' Even during those moments of distress, I put my trust in God.
