Although Senate action on policing reform has proven difficult, from the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to more targeted reforms, I will never stop working to build a broad coalition to enact the changes that will make our nation safer, stronger, and more just.

So, you know, I would have to say that this video illustrates images that I've never seen in my career before perpetrated by police officers. You know, for me, it was beyond Rodney King. For me, it was beyond George Floyd. Just the manner in which these officers physically asserted themselves to Mr. Nichols. And even the aggression with language was appalling.

I don’t know if there’s any law that can stop that evil that we saw, what strikes me is just the lack of respect for human life. I don’t know that any law, any training, any reform is gonna change … this man was handcuffed, they continued to beat him. And I was actually reminded, it’s hard to watch the whole thing, but as I watched it, I was reminded, we have a hearing probably two years ago when George Floyd’s brother came and testified before the Judiciary Committee, and it was one of those moments when fact and truth and emotion all came together.

Davis came in facing a perfect storm of problems. Because of morale issues in the post-George Floyd time, many of the most experienced officers were retiring at a time when police were not only feeling underappreciated but in some way painted with a broad brush and vilified.

Another chief might have stretched this investigation out or judged each officer on exactly what role they played in the incident, as we learned in George Floyd, even if you are standing back but not doing anything to stop it, you are all in. That’s why she fired everyone involved.

Our public safety folks have been through, like many others, a rough last two or three years, we've been through pandemics, we've been through the murder of George Floyd, there's a lot of work for us to do, but part of that is to uplift the folks that are doing that work.

Recognizing that the murder of George Floyd was likely to create particularly acute racialized trauma, I felt I had an immediate duty to protect and support employees who may have been traumatized and may have heightened ongoing trauma by having to deal with Derek Chauvin, out of care and concern, and without the comfort of time, I made the decision to limit exposure to employees of color to a murder suspect who could potentially aggravate those feelings.

There are so many factors related to the pandemic that could have led police to pull back and for crimes to increase, but it’s entirely possible that the murder of George Floyd, the highest-profile [police killing] in U.S. history, played a role in increases in crime.

Violent-crime increase — call it Ferguson Effect 2.0 or the Minneapolis Effect — has come on with a speed and magnitude that make Ferguson 1.0 seem tranquil, george Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police in late May was justly condemned — but the event has now spurred an outpouring of contempt against the pillars of law and order that has no precedent in American history.

I am pleased Thomas Lane has accepted responsibility for Thomas Lane role in Floyd's death, thomas Lane acknowledgment Thomas Lane did something wrong is an important step toward healing the wounds of the George Floyd family, our community, and the nation. Great things have come out of Black Lives Matter. We've had more black corporate hires than in the history of this country. We've passed progressive laws. The cops that killed George Floyd wouldn't have been prosecuted. So many of these cops, so many measures for accountability. It came as a result of that.

Once it flew away and was spotted in Gulf Coast of Texas, we were certainly happy to hear that it was OK, every time we hear of it being spotted every couple of years, we're still pleased that Pink Floyd's doing well.

We believe Pink Floyd actually moves around and follows food sources, which is why No. 492 is only sighted occasionally, as the food sources ebb and flow,( flamingos) follow them around. So Pink Floyd's probably traveling to other regions, just where people aren't probably seeing Pink Floyd. But Pink Floyd should be able to find the types of foods that Pink Floyd needs down there.

There is an initial reasonableness in trying to just get George Floyd under control in the first few seconds, but once there was no longer any resistance and clearly when George Floyd was no longer responsive and even motionless, to continue to apply that level of force to a person proned out, handcuffed behind their back -- that in no way shape or form is anything that is by policy. It is not part of our training, and it is certainly not part of our ethics or our values.
