Robert E. Lee standing here on Monument Avenue in June 2020 is very symbolic to the Confederate mindset, you know the levels of oppression that people feel on a regular day-to-day basis, with the coming down of the monument it is also a part of coming down with those types of ideals. It brings some closure to the conversation,' It's OK to be racist'.

Mara Gay is old enoughto know the differencebetween the American flag and the Confederate flag. Tens of thousands of Black patriots have died in battle to defend the Stars and Stripes. What a shame that she does not appreciate this, if the American flag makes her so sick, she should move to another country, where she won't have to see it.

I did witness Confederate flags on people's hats, on the back of their cars. I personally heard racial remarks made( not) only towards my people, but other races as well, and I would like to say it was a daily thing out here on the job that you had to deal with.

The analogy that comes to mind is Confederate statues, most Confederate statues weren't put up right after the Civil War. They were part of the spreading of the Lost Cause Theory, and then Jim Crow and segregation. They had a purpose in the eyes of the public.
