X-barnoun
A phrase, or, equivalently, a node in a syntax tree, which consists either of: (1) an adjunct and another X-bar phrase, (2) a head, X, and an optional complement, or (3) a conjunction sandwiched between two other X-bars. The X is a "pro-letter" which can be substituted by letters such as N for noun, V for verb, P for preposition, I for inflectional, etc.

The need to be right all the time is the biggest bar to new ideas. It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong than to be always right by having no ideas at all.
You couldn't have a pre-arranged promotion at a bar or restaurant. You could have a promotion, but you couldn’t tell anyone you were going to have it. It was like throwing a party without inviting anyone.
Anchors are no longer as mythic as they once were – whether it’s Couric or Cronkite, no one will have that level of stature. While that lowers the bar in one way, it makes the job more challenging and the anchors more disposable.
I think the Chinese are hoping that political and economic factors will converge to convince the Trump administration to lower the bar somewhat so that China can meet some of the requirements.
