William Strickland was an influential American architect during the 19th century, widely known for his Greek Revival designs. Born in 1788 in Navesink, New Jersey, he was considered a significant figure in the American Greek Revival movement and is credited for designing many notable buildings across the U.S., including the Second Bank of the United States in Philadelphia, the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville, and the Merchant's Exchange in Philadelphia, among others.
