    William Patterson was a United States Representative from New York. Born in Derry, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, he attended the common schools and moved to Rensselaerville, Albany County, New York in 1815 and in the following year to Lyons, Wayne County. He engaged in the manufacture and sale of fanning mills, and moved to a farm near Warsaw, New York in 1822 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He settled in Warsaw in 1837 and held several local offices. Patterson was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress and held office from March 4, 1837 until his death in Warsaw in 1838; interment was in Warsaw Town Cemetery. Patterson's brother, George Washington Patterson, and nephew, Augustus Frank, were also members of the House of Representatives from New York.
