    Koose Munisamy Veerappan vanniyar (18 January 1952 – 18 October 2004), more commonly known as Veerappan, was an Indian bandit or dacoit, who was active for nearly 30 years kidnapping, murdering and ivory and sandalwood smuggling in the scrub lands and forests in the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. His long career and ability to evade police led him to be regarded as a Robin Hood figure to some.
