ChatGPT
thrombocytosis
Thrombocytosis is a medical condition characterized by an abnormally high number of platelets, also known as thrombocytes, in the blood. Platelets are parts of the blood that help the body form clots to stop bleeding. Having too many platelets can lead to blood clotting issues, including both excessive clotting and bleeding. Thrombocytosis can be caused by various factors including blood loss, cancer, infections, inflammatory conditions, and certain medications.
Wikidata
Thrombocytosis
Thrombocytosis is the presence of high platelet counts in the blood, and can be either primary or reactive. Although often symptomless, it can predispose to thrombosis in some patients. In a healthy individual, a normal platelet count ranges from 150,000 and 450,000 per mm³. These limits, however, are determined by the 2.5th lower and upper percentile, and a deviation does not necessary imply any form of disease. Nevertheless, counts over 750,000 are considered serious enough to warrant investigation and intervention.
